Materials

For this science project, there will be some materials which should be prepared. It includes the test tube, small balloon, funnel, vinegar, as well as a teaspoon of baking soda. The material is pretty easy so it can be found easily at home. One thing for sure, the children should be accompanied by adults when applying the science project which involves some chemical ingredients.

Procedure

The procedure for this experiment is surely simple but adults should make sure that they keep on eye to the students who try applying the science projects for 4th graders. First of all, the test tube should be put on the place where it is able to stand upright safely. Having partner who will hold it will also be a great idea. Vinegar should be used for filling the tube to the half level of the tube. It is also necessary for stretching the balloon properly just like when they want to blow it. The funnel should be used for putting the baking soda inside prepared balloon. The balloon should also be shaken gently for ensuring that the baking soda goes to its bottom. It is important for ensuring that the test tube is free from baking soda. The balloon opening should be stretched very carefully until it is over the test tube opening. The baking soda will fall into vinegar in the test tube and they can witness the inflating balloon without having to blow it up at all. Vinegar which is the acid makes the chemical reaction when it is mixed with baking soda as the base. Carbonic acid is made and it is unstable so it will be decomposed for becoming water and carbon dioxide which will inflate the balloon. That is about the science projects for 4th graders.
