The Experiment of Plant Motion-Easy and Fun Science Fair Ideas for Kids

Science Fair Ideas for Kids - Many kids are given the task of science from their teacher or instructor, but they are feeling confused about what material would be the material project. The kids actually can start from the sense of attraction to it. Whether the kids more interested in biology, physics, chemistry, history, mathematics or others? Once kids determine their interest next is the turn of kid’s curiosity. Why things happen and how can it happen? is the basic question that will guide the kids find the answer. Science fair is a magical way to get a fun learning experience. So do not feel difficult if you get a science project assignment because the benefit of the task will be returned to you, start thinking that the project is easy and fun.

One of easy and fun science fair ideas for kids is the motion experiment on plant. There has been a misconception in children, even in the general population. They think that the plants cannot move. Yet as living beings, plants can also move. But there is the different between animal and plants motion. Animals had rapid movement while the plant has a slow motion. Following we will describe one of the experiments that would prove the existence of movement in plants.

Science Fair Ideas

Before implementing this project science, the kids had to prepare the necessary tools and materials. Tools and materials needed are plants in pots, knives and a cardboard box. Give the holes on the edge of the cardboard box and cover the pot with a plant in a cardboard box. Place the plants were already covered by the box in the direction of the sun. Note and record what happens from day to day.

As we know that plants grow toward the top, but from the experimental observations will we see that the direction of growth of the plants turns laterally toward the sunlight, in other words the direction of plants growing turn toward the hole in the box? This is because the plants react positively to the stimulation of the sunlight that coming through a hole in the side of the box. From this experiment can be seen clearly that the plant also moves but the response is slow.

If we want to see the movement of plants that relatively quickly, we can see on the plant Mimosa pudica. This plant will shut the leaves quickly when we touch. This is related to the leaf cell turgor pressure. If the leaves we touch, turgor pressure that had a strong pressing on the leaf cell walls become disrupted and do not press strongly again. So that we see the leaf is moving closes.

We can conduct experiments to determine the speed of response of Mimosa pudica leaves. Give the different stimulation, for example, drops of hot water and touch the leaves with ice. Parts that touch can be distinguished. How quickly the response if we touch the topside of leaves and how quickly the response if we touch the underside of leaves. Then record the time it takes the leaves to react.

That's two examples of science fair ideas for kids that you can make a material consideration. From these examples we can see that the problems that could be used as a science problem is a problem that associated with living things around us. Hope it is useful.
